As I found that I need windows 7 to use the current best S3D editing programs, I’ve been looking into a new laptop for this. There are two options: small or big. Each with it’s own advantages and disadvantages. Here is a comparison.

Small (10-12″)

mini110/210 elitebook 2730p pavilon DM1 macbook air
10″ 12″ 11,6″ 11,6″
1024 x 600 1280 x 800 1366×768 1366×768
1GB DDR3 2GB DDR2 4GB DDR3 2GB DDR3
250GB 80/160 500GB 64gb
10/100 1gbps 1gbps none
BT4
USB 2.0 USB USB 2.0 USB 2.0
mic in/line out mic in + line out mic + line line
FW
VGA VGA VGA en HDMI thunderbolt
multicard Expresscard54/SDcard multicard x (!!)
webcam webcam webcam webcam
1,3kg 1,7kg 1,6kg 1,1kg
3u18 (3cell) 4-5h 6u50m 5 hours?
E 318 E 800

From this one can conclude that the pavilon is the absolut best buy if you look at specs. The elitebook on the other hand adds firewire and exprescard functionality, and if I remember well, also touch-screen.

Big (17″)

If you look at the cheap 17″ options, there are:

Pavilion G7 Probook 4730s
E380 mediam. E500 maxict
1600×900 1600×900
vga + hdmi VGA + HDMI
usb2 USB2 + usb3
4,5h
milticard multi+expresscard/34
10/100 1gbps
webcam webcam
3kg 2,9kg

I have only been looking at HP laptops and find the probook 4730s an absolut best buy, except I feel it really misses a full-HD screen.
